Best experiences in college?
One memory that stands out was being part of the new-student orientation team for several years. I was an orientation leader for two years, then a student orientation coordinator. It was so rewarding to go from being a freshman to the other side of orientation and to see the growth of incoming students over those few days. What’s next after Naz?
I’m drawn to the fast-paced, interdisciplinary nature of medical social work and the opportunity to support individuals and families during times of crisis, so I plan to work in a hospital setting. I’ll pursue my LCSW credential to further expand my clinical skills and career opportunities.I chose social work because of the wide range of paths the profession offers. I’m drawn to the flexibility of the field and the opportunity to explore various roles, populations, and settings, all while making a meaningful impact.
What has most prepared you?
After my different internship placements, I feel very prepared to start my life’s work.- Junior year, I completed a field placement at UR Home Care Hospice.
- Senior year, I was at the Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club Rochester.
- As a grad student, I am completing my master’s-level internship at Romulus Central School District.
One particularly memorable experience was presenting to social workers from the Rochester City School District about the services and mission of CSC Gilda’s Club. This experience helped me develop confidence in public speaking. It also allowed me to showcase key social work skills such as advocacy, communication, and community engagement.
What lessons will you take with you from your Nazareth years?
Step outside of your comfort zone. Being at Naz really taught me to jump into the unknown and take that leap. One example was choosing to intern at a school. I was initially very nervous and felt intimidated about the setting, but I’m incredibly grateful I pursued it. I discovered a strong passion for school social work — something I may never have realized without that experience.Who’s had a great impact on you?
The Student Engagement and Leadership team has had an incredible impact on me. Shout-out to Nicole Posluszny, J.J. Hughes, Kim Harvey, Heather Sourwine, and Ray Cruz, and the entire Suite 100 team! They really taught me what it means to be a team. They are such incredible people, and I have loved my time as a graduate assistant with the team.
