Go to Campus Events.
It can be so nerve wracking to be a freshman in the first semester. It feels like everyone knows everyone already. Going to campus events will bring you the chances to meet new people. I met some of my very best friends by going to campus events. Some of my favorites were Midnight Breakfast and Springfest!
Open Your Door.
During orientation I was given the advice to keep the door to my dorm room open. Instantly, I thought to myself, “No, absolutely not” but later reconsidered. By leaving my door open, my soon to be best friends walked in randomly and so far they’ve never left!
Explore the town.
One of my favorite things to do with my friends freshman year was walking through the town of Pittsford. We would take walks down to the canal and just take in the scenery. We would later discover the Pittsford public library had a Starbucks in it. This would soon become our favorite place to study. By exploring you too could find your favorite place!
Go to office hours.
Sometimes in class you totally don’t understand what’s going on. And that’s okay! Our professors have designated times to help you better understand the material and concepts. It can be really scary admitting that you need help. It took me a semester to finally gain the courage to go to office hours. It was absolutely amazing to go and to now have the feeling of understanding what I didn’t beforehand. Office hours are your friend!
Take a leap of faith.
Do things that push you out of your comfort zone. You never know what opening one door might bring you. Some of my best memories from freshman year were by doing things that were unexpected. Go to that study abroad interest meeting! Apply to be a student ambassador and share your stories of life at Naz!
